This back yard reception happened on one of the prettiest days in the Midwest this past summer. Daniel and Jessica have a romantic love story and their greenhouse wedding was filled with romance, joy, laughs, and lots of twinkle lights. The colors were champagne mixed with floral bouquets of roses and baby’s breath.
Daniel proposed to Jessica in a way no girl can refuse. I don’t remember the story perfectly, but it involved her coming home from work to rose petals leading up to a wardrobe of dresses laid out for her to pick from. A couple of more notes involving getting dressed, having a drink, and waiting for a car and then a white Rolls Royce showed up to whisk her off to Daniel. When she arrived at the harbor, he had white twinkle lights, candles, and beautiful music playing on the boat dock where they take their weekend trips on the lake in Chicago. He proposed right there and she, of course, said yes.
The wedding was held outdoors at the Bird Haven Greenhouse. Daniel waited at the floral arch as Jessica came out the greenhouse to marry her prince charming. She wore a full birdcage veil and an elegant crystal jacket over her fitted silk gown. The ceremony was filled with sentimental stories of the two of them. Daniel said “I love the way you take those stickers off my apples when you make my lunch.”. Yeah. That’s love. It tugged at my heart because I do that for my husband and then wash and dry the apple, place it tenderly into his lunch box, and hope he enjoys it. We have been married for 19 years and I have been making his lunches every single morning. That’s love when you can commit to making someone else’s lunch for the rest of your life and like it.
After the greenhouse wedding ceremony, we did some beautiful family photos and then strolled through the house for a few quiet moments of just the newlyweds. Big, orange trumpet flowers filled one side of the room. It was a perfect afternoon.
The reception was held at Daniel’s parent’s back yard. It was a tented reception with a Father of the Bride feel to it. The catering company grilled and prepared all the food in the yard as the guests enjoyed cocktails, music, and a fun twinkle light selfie station. After introductions, guests were treated to a motivational speech by a Chris Farley impersonator and a Mexican feast. Jessica and Daniel had their favorite cake from Portillos for dessert and then danced the night away.
I am proud to see this wedding and this couple’s story has been featured on Love and Lavender as well as Modern Weddings recently.
Thank you to this couple for choosing me as their wedding photographer. Enjoy the memories!
