This beautiful fall wedding at Heritage Prairie Farm was filled with unique touches from the bride and groom. Megan, the bride, carried a bouquet wrapped in the lace from her Grandmother’s wedding gown.
It was a cool fall day and the bridesmaids wore gray shawls to stay warm and complement their rich red long flowing gowns.
Guests were treated to a surprise performance of “Be Our Guest” by one of Megan’s talented cousins (who also helped with hair and make-up).
One of her Grandmothers wore the same beautiful blue dress she originally wore to Megan’s Mom’s wedding thirty years ago. She said she loved it so much and it cost her “a million dollars at the time”, jokingly.
Wallflower Designs adorned the place in every beautiful floral possible. My favorite were the caramel roses, sunflowers, and rich red dahlias. Tablescapes included favorite craft brew bottles for vases filled with wheat and tiny cinderella pumpkins were all around.

This engagement session at Peck Farm in Geneva, Il was so much fun. We picked this location for the different buildings and water. Cheyne wanted to bring along their puppy and it was a great place to run and let off energy during the shoot.
About the Couple:
Cheyne and Colleen met in their neighborhood when they were in middle school. They lived close to each other and Cheyne immediately developed a crush and turned red every time Colleen would say “Hi”. They didn’t reconnect, again, until Colleen had finished grad school.
They were engaged at “Lovers Leap” at Starved Rock State Park on her birthday.

I photographed this beautiful Heritage Prairie Farm wedding on a perfect spring day in May. The colors for this stylish group were a dreamy wine and quartz combination with fun florals created by the bride, the groom’s sisters, and the bridesmaids.
Jen and Bryan met working at Target and were engaged shortly after. They planned their wedding in 5 months and it went off without a hitch. Their beautiful, intimate barn ceremony was so pretty with the hanging lights and old-fashioned white church pews. After the ceremony, guests enjoyed cocktails behind the barn as the sun set.
Dinner at this venue was a true treat for all the guests. For example, it started with passed appetizers of fried chicken and cheddar herb biscuits along with zucchini pitas. After guests were seated, dinner was served family style alongside homemade bread with whipped honey butter (the honey comes from the farm, of course).
Dessert was doughnuts. I am so happy people finally realized doughnuts are awesome and belong at weddings! This past year, this fried treat has become The “It” wedding cake to have and Jennifer and Bryan did it up right. They had a doughnut board, a doughnut tower, and a doughnut cake. All from the amazing Stan’s Donuts in Chicago, IL.
Not only was dinner a great experience, but guests also enjoyed late night smores over a campfire, popcorn, a cotton candy machine, and sneaking off to the goat barn for some fun selfies.

Alison and Josh were married at St. Peters Church in Geneva, Illinois and I photographed their reception at Two Brothers Roundhouse in Aurora.

Describe details of your wedding were extra special to you?
Josh and I have always said our family is first. When it came to our wedding, I new I wanted to focus some of our decor around family. That’s when we got the idea of putting the “generation” wedding photos on display. We loved showing our grandparents and our parents love on their wedding days. We also thought it would be clever to send our guests home with BBQ sauce. Since our food was in that theme. As we explained to Josh’s aunt our idea, she was quick to pull out the recipe for Josh’s grandma GiGi’s BBQ sauce. Lastly our vintage cake topper was used on my grandparents wedding cake in the 1950’s, then again on my parents cake in 1980. It looked amazing (thanks to The Cakery) and the past pictures of it were on either side! So many things were special on that day and it’s hard to pick!
What pieces of advice you can share with couples that are still in the planning process?
First, start early! Start keeping lots of lists, thoughts, and questions all on paper or your phone. Lists were my BFF. Also, get your family and friends to help. You’d be surprised who would love to help, just be sure to thank them. Lastly, ask for advice! I had many patients that gave me the greatest advise. I also was constantly calling my mom, sister-in-law or Mother-in-law. 2 pieces of advice that stuck out the most were… 1) be sure that you and your fiancé take a couple minutes to go away from everyone so it’s just the two of you and just soak it all in! 2) The day is only going to be fun if YOU make it fun. So relax, have fun, don’t sweat the small stuff, and remember it’s about getting married to the one you love!
Do you have a story you would like to share about your wedding day?
We were going nonstop the whole day! I’m going to be honest and say, my absolute most favorite part was our “first dance”. Our song since High school is Jack Johnson’s “Better Together”. This song is a glorious 4 minute song! That was 4 minutes of just the two of us dancing like we do in the living room. We were dancing, hugging, singing, and crying. I never thought that would be “my favorite moment” but it was. It was just me and the man of my dreams, my high school sweetheart, my best friend!
